ALTER DO CHÃO ITINERARY – August 24 to 27, 2025

Alter do Chão is a village in the district of the municipality of Santarém, in Pará. Known as the "Amazonian Caribbean". Alter do Chão enchants all who visit it with all its exuberant beauty and its natural riches.

DAY BY DAY

Day 1 – 08/24 (Sun) – Arrival in Santarém / Alter do Chão.

According to your flight, reception at Santarém Airport and transfer to Alter do Chão. Accommodation. Rest of the day free.

Day 2 – 08/25 (Mon) – Lago Verde / Ponta de Pedras / Ponta do Jarí / Lago Preto.

After breakfast, we will begin the crossing of Lago Verde towards the majestic Tapajós River. We will sail for about 2 hours, passing through the beautiful Jarí Canal, until we reach Ponta do Jarí – a natural canal that connects the Tapajós, with its crystal clear waters, to the Amazon River, with its muddy waters. The region is a floodplain that, during the flood season, becomes flooded and reveals a rich biodiversity. With luck, we might spot sloths, monkeys, iguanas, dolphins and several species of birds.

Before heading to Ponta de Pedras beach, we will make a small detour to admire the imposing Victoria Regia trees. While we wait for lunch in Ponta de Pedras, we suggest taking an invigorating dip in the river.

In the late afternoon, we will head towards Lago Preto – which, despite its name, surprises with its incredibly clear waters. Another unmissable dip to connect with nature. On the way back, we will make a strategic stop at Cururu, where, with a bit of luck, we will be able to enjoy an unforgettable sunset. Then, we will return to the hotel.

Day 3 – 08/26 (Tue) – Jamaragua Community.

Visit to the Jamaraquá community, located within the Tapajós National Forest (FLONA). As part of the project to support sustainable forest management in the Amazon, the community offers visitors an enriching experience about the conscious use of natural resources by riverside communities. The basis of local subsistence is the production of cassava flour, beans and rice, but the new source of income has been the so-called "ecological leather", produced by hand from latex extracted from rubber trees.

Jamaraquá is one of the smallest communities in the FLONA, and the tour includes a walk through the primary forest, with two possible trails: one lasting approximately 2h30 (round trip) and the other lasting approximately 4h30. Along the way, visitors come across imposing trees that are over 30 meters tall. On the way back, there is the option of canoeing through igapós or igarapés. We end the day enjoying the region's paradisiacal beaches and, after sunset, we return to the hotel or guesthouse.

Day 4 – 08/27 (Wed) – Alter do Chão / Santarém.
